How To Surrender To God And Let Him Lead You

Sharing is caring!

If you’re looking for ways on how to surrender to God, but don’t know where to start, this guide will help get you started on the right path.

Surrendering means letting go of your control and letting God take the lead in your life. This is not an easy task and takes time and dedication to complete.

But if you have a personal relationship with God, there are ten ways that can help you surrender to Him. If youre already following Christ, remember these ten ways whenever you feel like giving up on your walk with Him!

Surrendering to God doesnt mean turning your will and life over to some alien master who has no compassion or sympathy for your needs and desires.

Surrendering to God means acknowledging that he has the power to bless you with good things, but its ultimately your choice whether or not you receive his blessings.

Here are ten ways to show you how to surrender to God without getting overwhelmed by the process.

1.  Acknowledge The Lord

The first step in surrendering to God is acknowledging He is Lord over your life. This means recognizing that He is in control and you are not. It also means admitting that you need Him.

If you want to know how to surrender to God, start by acknowledging Him as your Lord. There is no doubt that this may be difficult for many people, but its the only way to begin. To have peace, we must give up our rights to manage our own lives.

We have to trust God for everything – even when we dont understand whats happening or why. When we acknowledge that he is our Lord, we will find a deeper joy than any other because it has nothing to do with us and everything to do with Jesus.

Some of us have a hard time admitting that we need Jesus. We often have a strong sense of pride, which keeps us from admitting when we are defeated or exhausted by life.

If your desire is to understandhow to surrender to God, you must first recognize your need for Him and allow yourself to be humble enough to admit that He is more powerful than you.

Once you realize how utterly inadequate you are on your own, then you can welcome His direction. If youre struggling with how to surrender to God, remember that it starts with acknowledging who He is to you.

2.  Pray

When we consider ways on how to surrender to God, it isnt complete without prayer. When you pray, you are opening up a conversation with God. You are inviting Him into your life and surrendering your will to His.

It is a way of putting yourself in His hands and acknowledging that He is in control.

In the same way, when you share whats on your heart with another person, it puts them in charge of the situation. Its like giving them the reins to your horse so they can take you where they want to go.

Prayer is not an exercise in futility or an opportunity for people-pleasing. Instead, it creates intimacy between two people who love each other deeply – God and you – and invites Him into every area of your life.

It gives Him permission to shape you, mold you, transform you, call out your fears and make plans for your future.

When you pray, you are opening up a conversation with God. You are telling Him that you need His help and guidance. You are surrendering your will to His and asking for His strength. Prayer is an act of humility and obedience.

It is a way to surrender your heart and mind to God. We dont do this in our own power but through the Holy Spirits power. Thats why we ask in Jesus name, so He can work in us and through us.

3.  Trust The Process

It can be challenging to trust the process, especially when we want things to happen immediately.

Unfortunately, we live in a world of instant gratification, but sometimes surrendering to God means being patient and trusting that He has a plan.

Sometimes, God puts things in our hearts (dreams, aspirations, goals) and gives them right away. But, there are also other instances, this being the majority, when God puts things in our hearts and then makes us wait.

In the waiting period, God prepares us for His promise. During the waiting period, He teaches us and builds our character, faith, and ability to do what he has called us to do. The question is, will you trust the process?

4.  Meditate On Gods Word

when you meditate on God’s word, you are opening your heart and mind to his truth. you are listening for his voice and inviting him to speak into your life. this is one of the ways on how to surrender to God.

It is a humble act of submission that leads to a deeper relationship with Him. The more time you spend with the Lord, the more confident you will be in recognizing His voice as He speaks through His word.

Seek out opportunities to grow in faith. We can grow in faith and surrender to God in many ways, from attending worship services and Bible studies, prayer meetings or retreats, or even reading

Scripture alone at home. As we choose these things over our own preferences, we can be assured of drawing closer to Him each day. As a result, we will know Him better and trust Him more.

5.  Let Go Of Your Worries

Worrying does nothing but give you anxiety and stress. It doesnt solve anything and certainly doesnt make anything better. This is why letting go of any burden such as worry is important when learning how to surrender to God.

One of the best things you can do is let go of your worries. Trust that He has a plan for you and know that He will take care of you. Relax and have faith.

Acknowledge His presence in all situations, His voice in all decisions, and His love in every circumstance.

When we try to live by looking at life as an obstacle course with too many different tasks to complete, were setting ourselves up for failure before we even start.

Refuse to live life from the worry lane. Instead, focus on just living today, and whatever happens, happens. And if something doesnt happen today? Wait until tomorrow.

Just enjoy each moment you have without worrying about what comes next because theres always going to be something coming next. Let Him lead the way. Many people mistake following Jesus as hard work; in reality, following Jesus should be a joyous thing because of who He is!

Instead of figuring out what direction they need to go in on their own, they should trust that God knows where they need to be going and just follow Him. Spend time with Him every day.

Make sure you set aside some time each day for fellowship with Jesus Christ so that He can guide you through this world. Lastly, pray consistently and purposefully.

One great way to surrender your worries is by praying consistently every day, especially during times when you’re struggling or stressed out. We should try to include God in all of our prayers so that He knows how much we need Him in every aspect of our lives!

6Worship The Lord

When you worship the Lord, you acknowledge Him as your lifes sovereign ruler. You are also exalting Him above everything else. This is an act of humility and submission.

Additionally, worshiping the Lord is a way of thanking Him for His goodness and faithfulness. It is also a declaration of your dependence on Him. Lastly, worshiping the Lord strengthens your relationship with Him and allows you to experience His presence more deeply.

This is why the ways on how to surrender to God we have spoken about wont be complete without worship. There are many ways and many different places you can worship God. You can lift your hands in praise and adoration or sing to Him.

You can get on your knees before Him or speak words of honor. It all depends on what resonates with you. There is no right way, only a right heart thatdesires to please Him in everything you do!

In the fourth chapter of Revelation, John the Beloved sees the four living creatures and 24 elders surrounding the throne of God in heaven.

They are worshipping God and saying, You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will, they were created and have their being. They do this all the time because they understand He is Lord.

We dont often use the term Lord today. But it was used widely in biblical times. You find it mostly in the Bible in reference to God, but its also used for someone in power or the person youre obeying.

That would make a good description of God – the one in charge. He is the sovereign Lord, the ruler of heaven and earth. And because of this, we are expected to worship him.

7.  Let Go Of Your Will

You may think that you know whats best for your life, but the truth is that only God knows whats best. Surrendering your will to Him means that you trust Him to lead you and guide you.

It can be difficult to let go of control, but its important to remember that God is in control, and He knows whats best for you.

One way to do this is by asking yourself if what youre about to do or say is something that God would want from you at this time. If not, then dont do it!

For example, when Im tempted to gossip about someone, I ask myself Would God want me to gossip? Usually, the answer is no, so I don’t do it. Another way to surrender your will is by giving up your personal desires for someone else’s needs.

When I’ve been struggling with giving up my wants for someone else’s needs, I usually ask myself, What does God think? When we have selfish desires and thoughts come into our minds, we should replace them with ones of love and gratitude.

8.  Commit To Spiritual Discipline

A vital part of how to surrender to God is committing to spiritual disciplines. This means setting aside time daily to pray, read your Bible, and journal. It also means being involved in a local church and attending weekly services.

Additionally, you should find an accountability partner or join a small group. Be honest with this person about what’s going on in your life so they can help you through tough times.

There are so many distractions these days that it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life without taking the time for self-reflection. Finally, commitment means prioritizing things that will always keep you close to God.

A spiritual discipline is a practice that helps us grow closer to God. It’s not about perfection but about surrendering our will to Him and submitting ourselves to His authority.

When we commit to spiritual disciplines, we are saying Yes to God and No to the world. We are choosing to set aside time for Him, whether it’s through prayer, Bible study, worship, service, or simply spending time in His presence.

This is not always easy, but it is always worth it. As we submit ourselves to God and grow in our relationship with Him, we find that He is faithful to meet us where we are and help us become the people He created us to be.

9.  Ask The Lord Instead Of Complaining

When we complain, we are really just trying to take matters into our own hands and fix things ourselves. But when we surrender our lives and our problems to God, we are saying that we trust Him to take care of us.

Asking the Lord for help instead of complaining is a sign of faith and trust. It shows that we believe He is in control and knows what is best for us.

When we surrender to God, we are also acknowledging His power and authority over us. We are admitting that we need His help and guidance in our lives.

By surrendering to God, we are opening ourselves up to His blessings and His protection. We are also setting ourselves free from the bondage of worry, stress, and anxiety.

When we give our worries to God, they no longer have any power over us. Even if something doesn’t work out as we wanted it to, as long as we put it in God’s hands, then it will be better than anything we could have come up with on our own.

When we give Him all of our burdens and difficulties, He can carry them much better than us. And He has the strength and wisdom needed to solve any problem!

To do this, focus on what you can control and don’t worry about what you can’t control. Worrying is not beneficial because it doesn’t change a thing; it just increases our stress levels and gives us anxiety for no reason.

If we focus on what we can control and pray about what we can’t, then we will be able to live our lives in peace!

10.  By Living Upright

When we live our lives with an awareness of God’s presence, it becomes easier to let go of things that weigh us down.

We can surrender our burdens to Him, knowing that He will carry us through. Living upright doesn’t mean we’re perfect. We all make mistakes.

But it does mean being honest with ourselves and others and always striving to do our best. When we live our lives for God, we can let go of the need for worldly approval and validation. Instead, we find our worth in Christ. And that is enough.

It’s not easy, but as long as we remember that this life is not our home and work tirelessly to please Him (rather than each other), we’ll be okay.

Once we accept that our worth doesn’t depend on other people’s opinions, it becomes easier to surrender our fears and struggles. In fact, doing so can make them easier to handle! When we turn our burdens over to God and trust that He guides us along our journey, we find deep peace in knowing He will take care of us.

We don’t have to worry about tomorrow–God is always here for us today. And when we come closer with Him through worship and prayer, our lives begin to change for the better. When I stopped living from a place of fear, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders!

If we’re in tune with God’s will, it’s easier to spot things that don’t align with His values. This is our cue to take a step back and let go of those things. We can’t control every aspect of our lives – no one can.

But by setting a standard for ourselves, working hard to reach it, and being honest about our shortcomings, we give ourselves room to grow into more Christlike people daily.

Examples Of Surrendering To God In The Bible

The Bible features many instances of people surrendering their lives to God despite experiencing several challenges. Here are some of them.

1.  Job

In the Bible, there was perhaps no character who suffered as much as Job. He had a good family, a good name, and plenty of wealth. Then Satan asked God if he could alter Jobs good fortune.

When Job loses everything; his children, his riches, his cattle, his crops, his health, and the esteem of his wife and friends, things couldn’t get any worse. However, Job remained true to his faith, much to Satans frustration. Instead, he praised the Lord.

2.  David

David is a Bible character who experienced hard times. He was anointed king of Israel and picked by God, yet he was tormented by the jealous King Saul, who tried to kill him for many years. After so much hiding David became one of the greatest kings in Isreal’s history.

3.  Moses

Moses is another Bible character who went through several difficult situations. He doubted he could deliver his people from Egypt, so he fled into the wilderness until God appeared to him at the burning bush and called him to do just what he had run away from.  Moses became victorious when he surrendered to God’s will for his life.

4.  Peter

Peter betrayed Jesus at the point of temptation. However, after surrending to God’s will, he becomes the early church leader after Jesus’s death.

5.  Abraham

Abraham was willing to give up his son Isaac when God asked him. God honored his obedience.

6.  Ruth

Ruth was willing to surrender pleasure and comfort so she could take care of her mother-in-law Naomi. By doing this, she ultimately obeyed the will of God for her life.

7.  Noah

Of all the Bible characters, Noah stands out as one of the most patient, if measured in terms of time. He spent 120 years building the ark and speaking to the people in the world about Gods promise of deliverance.

Others pale in comparison. No other Bible character remained so faithful to God as Noah, who lived during one of the most sinful periods in history.

8.  Jonah

Jonah was the Lords prophet, assigned to deliver the message of salvation to the Ninevites. What makes his story famous is that he was swallowed by a big fish and spent three days and nights in its stomach.

Then, after repentance and total submission to God, the people of Nineveh were saved because of Jonah.

9.  Paul

Paul was one of the main pillars in spreading the gospel. The highlight of his life came when he was blinded by God while on his way to persecute God’s people.

This was the defining moment at the start of his commitment to God’s sacred work of evangelism. After surrendering to God’s will for his life, the Apostle Paul’s impact is still felt even today, writing almost two-thirds of the New Testament.

10.  Jesus Christ

Jesus, while he was on earth, surrendered to the will of God. His life is an inspiration to how we ought to live our lives.
