How To Conquer Fear Biblically And Let God Lead

Sharing is caring!

God wants us to live boldly, without fear, and with confidence. However, some are still under the satanic bondage of fear. This article will address how to conquer fear biblically.

Fear keeps us from doing the things we want to do and prevents us from going after our goals and dreams in life. In addition, fear can hinder us from having relationships with other people or even keep us from being able to function in everyday life. Fear can cause you to be afraid to take risks and make changes in your life when it’s time for you to move forward and embrace something new.

So with all of these negative effects, why does fear still exist? And what can we do about it? Read on as we further look into how to conquer fear biblically and understand other spiritual ways to overcome fear.

1.  Recognize That God Is Always There

Uncertainty often feeds, or fuels fear. People often fear what they don’t know or can not control. People fear a lot of things. People fear what the future brings, corrupt officials, illnesses, death, terrorist attacks, financial crisis, and the list goes on and on.

But one of the ways on how to conquer fear biblically is to recognize that God is always there for us. Even in moments when we don’t feel so.

The Bible teaches us that God is always with us. He does not abandon us when we are in fear and anxiety. He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

The Bible also teaches us that the Lord provides strength for our weakness, that His power will sustain us (Isaiah 40:28). Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

This verse gives us the reason why we should never be fearful. We must not fear because God is with us. When we understand this, it breaks any spiritual stronghold of fear over our lives.

Psalm 118:6 reaffirms this. It says, “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear what can man do to me.” Having God on your side is enough for you to never be afraid of the future.

Why should you fear if God protects you from all forms of harm? If God is on your side, what can man do to you? The Psalmist expressed this also in Psalms 23:4, where it says: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

Imagine this for a second: The same God who is the Supreme Ruler of the entire universe. The same God who made the heavens and the earth. The same God who holds all the power to protect you. This God is always with you. Will you then still be afraid?

So recognize that God is always there with you and for you; nothing can harm you. This is a way on how to conquer fear biblically.

2. Put Your Trust In God

Fear brings a feeling of hopelessness due to a lack of help. But as believers, we are never helpless. Do you remember the story of Moses and the Israelites, who the Egyptians pursued to the river banks of the Red Sea?

You can imagine the fear that would have overshadowed them, thinking of what the Egyptians would probably do to them without a safe way of crossing the Red Sea., even in such tough moments, God never left them helpless.

The second way on how to conquer fear biblically is to put your trust in God. Trusting the Lord is essential in overcoming fear and living by faith because it allows God to manifest and perform a miracle for you.

As Christians, every time we are afraid, we must see it as an opportunity to surrender everything in God’s hands. Romans 8:28 is a constant reminder that although we may not understand the complete picture of what may be happening, we can trust the Lord.

It says, “And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.”

In moments where you may feel powerless, rather than give in to fear, surrender your fear to God and trust that He will do what is best for you. After all, God is our heavenly Father. Like a father who protects his children, He who will protect us from evil.

3. Seek The Peace Jesus Gives

Fear brings trouble to our hearts and minds. We can’t think properly when we are filled with so much fear. It seems everything that we do is not working out.

We are constantly saddened by the thought that things can go wrong. This is why the third tip on how to conquer fear biblically is to seek the peace of God.

Jesus gives us a reason why we must not be afraid. He gives us peace, and this should fight our fear. John 14:27 shows us this.

It says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

The peace that Jesus brings originates from Him. It is not something that you ordinarily get from the world. For most people, peace is the absence of conflict and war.

But for God, peace is having an intimate and close relationship with Him. Peace is having God in your life. It comes from the assurance and belief that God is always in control.

When you are filled with this type of peace, then you can cast away fear from your heart. This is because the peace of Jesus has the power to overcome fear.

4.  Be Filled With Love

1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

God is love and those who have accepted Him must also be filled with love. Being filled with love is the next tip on how to conquer fear biblically.

If we want to eliminate fear, we must replace it with something. If we keep our minds empty, fear can easily return.
Being filled with love is one of the ways to overcome fear in the Bible which is clearly shown to us.

So, we can cast out fear with love. Love is affection and emotion that do not produce any fear. In fact, if we truly love God, we should not fear anything.

5.  Seek God In Prayer

The Bible instructs us to “not worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done” (Philippians 4:6, NLT).

So we are taught not to worry or fear, but we are also told what to do instead of being afraid: pray. Another way on how to conquer fear biblically is to seek the Lord in prayer.

Philippians 4:7 shows us what happens when we seek God in prayer. It says, “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (NLT). When we offer up our fears through prayer, God will lead us into a deeper experience of His loving care and help us overcome the fears we face.

6.  Be Strong And Of Good Courage

When Moses died, Israel lost a great leader. Now, it was time for Joshua to take the baton. However, the Israelites were afraid. They didn’t know whether Joshua would have the same authority and leadership as Moses.

During this time, Joshua needed encouragement. The people were afraid, and they also needed assurance from God. In Joshua 1, you will see that the command, “Be strong and of good courage,” was repeated three times.

In verse 9 of the first chapter of Joshua, we can see, “Have I not commanded you? BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

So one of the ways on how to conquer fear biblically is to be courageous. Instead of fearing, God encourages these people to be strong and be courageous.

7.  Stay Calm

Have you ever told anyone to “calm down”? Or has anyone ever said that to you in the midst of your struggles? I am sure you probably have gotten that a couple of times.

And while it can be upsetting to hear, the truth is staying calm in moments of turbulence and chaos is one of the ways on how to conquer fear biblically.

The Bible instructs us in Psalm 46:10. It says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” This verse reminds us that if we want to know God’s presence, we need to intentionally make space in our lives and our minds for His voice.

We need to practice the skill of being still each day, so we can apply it effectively when worry arises. A lifestyle of calmness requires that we intentionally practice calmness because we live in a fast-paced society where relaxation is overlooked.

So find time in your schedule each day (even if it’s only a few minutes), a quiet place, and a comfortable spot to relax and be still.

8.  Focus On The Right Things

Philippians 4:8 tells us, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable”

While it may be challenging to have all your thoughts together when you are afraid, one of the ways on how to conquer fear biblically is to focus your mind on the right things intentionally.

Focus on the many victories you have had in the past, and think of the many things that are going well in your life. When you do, you will see how whatever may be causing you to fear is not bigger or worst than the many things that God has delivered you from.

Psalm 34 :19 says, “Many are the affliction of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them out of them all.” Remembering the many times God has delivered you in the past will help you get over the fear you feel.

9.  Confess The Word Of God

Another way on how to conquer fear biblically is to confess the word of God. The Bible is filled with verses that talk about fear and how we can conquer it.

Later in this article, we will also see how to conquer fear with Bible verses for some of the Bible verse you can confess.

10.  Embrace Your New Identity In Christ

Lastly, one of the ways on how to conquer fear biblically is to embrace your new identity in Christ. When we become born again through a relationship with Jesus Christ, we actually become recreated [born anew] that we may do good works which God predestined for us (Ephesians 2:10 AMPC).

So whatever Jesus is, we are too. He is strong, courageous; and a conqueror, and as a result we are too. He has peace and joy, and this extends to us.

He’s capable and bold. And so are we and we can do whatever we need to do with our boldness in Christ.
The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”

As you study the Bible and meditate on what God says about you, you will be able to recognize the fears in your life that are holding you back and overcome them by seeing yourself in Christ. Then you will find you have whatever you need to do what you are created to do.

What Is The Spiritual Root Of Fear

Have you ever wondered what is the spiritual root of fear? The Spiritual root of fear is rooted in fear of death according to Hebrews 2:14-15.

When you read Hebrews 2:14-15, the Bible talks about the spiritual root of fear. It says, “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood,

He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

The good news is Jesus came to “…release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” So we don’t have to be bound by fear anymore.

How The Enemy Uses Fear

Fear is very deadly to those who allows it in their lives. Have you thought about how the enemy uses fear to cage many under his bondage?

The devil uses fear as a weapon to disrupt our faith. He wants us to question and doubt everything God says to us. He aims to get us to the point of unbelief and move us away from trusting God.
