Every new day that comes our way is a new gift that we have to be thankful for. As children of God, we have to ensure that our days begin and end with Jesus. This can be done when you develop a morning routine with Jesus.
We always say we want to be like Jesus, but what steps are we taking towards that? The best way to be like someone is to walk with them. This is why you should create a morning routine for yourself, where you can commune with Jesus daily.
Personally, at the initial stage of my becoming Christ-like, developing a morning routine with Jesus was a challenge. This was due to the fact that I am usually grumpy in the morning and prefer to sleep in late than rising very early.
But when I started to find more ways to live a healthier Christlike life, I realized that spending time with Jesus, especially in the morning, was important. So, I drew out a personal morning plan that helped me create an amazing morning routine that works magic for me.
Why Is It Important To Start Your Day With God?
Why is it important to start your day with God? Waking up in the morning is definitely not by our power, strength, or wealth and we know this. For “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalms 118:24 (NKJV).
It is God who has made each day beautiful in itself. And because God is our father and creator, creating a morning routine with Jesus in order to have a quiet time with God daily is to our benefit, which includes:
1. It improves spiritual life and gives us better communication with God
2. Offers us a very quiet time with God, away from distractions
3. Committing the day into the hands of God for more productive results
4. Renewal of mind which takes up every burden that may be upon our shoulders or in our hearts.
5. Confidence that everything we ask for and require has been taken good care of by God.
What Was Jesus’ Daily Routine?

What was Jesus’ Daily Routine? God designed Jesus’ coming such that he walked amongst men and lived just like men did. This means that in every human experience, Jesus had those too. However, he ensured that his life was impactful and thorough.
He also had daily routines just like mortals would. And as should be for every child of God, Jesus’ daily routine started with prayers.
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35 (NIV).
The scripture emphasizes how early Jesus went out to pray by using the word “very”. Despite the fact that Jesus knew had access to God, he still committed his ways and days to the hands of God. He honored God and communicated with him as much as possible, through prayers.
Part of Jesus’ daily routine was to go to the synagogue, as he had been brought up to do. Regardless of his power, Jesus obeyed the customs of the land daily. He also made a habit of going into the wilderness to fast and pray, which is evident in many parts of the scriptures.
How To Start Your Day With God
If we are being honest, the best way to start your day as a believer is with God! This is because there is a different and fulfilling peace that comes when you are sure that you are connected to God every morning.
So when you set out to start your day, you are confident in the backing that you have from God. Therefore, making quiet time with God early in the morning, and speaking to Him first before anyone else is key to a believer’s existence.
This is also one of the first ways to start off your day with God. There are many other things that you can do in order to start your day beautifully with God and indeed create a morning routine with Jesus. In this article, you will find a few as you keep reading.
10 Morning Routines To Start Your Day With Jesus

Despite how crucial morning routines with Jesus are, many believers neglect them. They are too concerned and busy with other things that they forget to invite God into their day by spending some time with Jesus.
To kickstart your day on the right foot with Jesus, here is a list of 10 things you can incorporate into your morning routine with Jesus.
1. Pray While It Is Early
“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” Psalms 5:3 (NIV). The first thing every Christian is advised to do in their morning routine with Jesus is praying.
We all know the importance of prayers in the lives of Christians. So when you wake up, I believe the first thing to do is say a word of prayer and ask God to help us go through the day safely and soundly.
But it is not just about praying, you should also consider the time you pray. The Bible did not categorically give a specific time to pray in the morning.
However, as Christians who follow the footsteps of Christ, we should emulate all his ways and this includes the time Jesus got up to pray during his time on earth. So when did Jesus get up to pray? Let’s look at what Mark 1:35 says about that.
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”. In this scripture, we see that Jesus woke to pray very early, while it was still dark.
Personally, I have found this time perfect for morning prayers because my environment is usually more quiet and more peaceful which allows me an actual quiet time with fewer distractions.
So, as you put your prayer first in your routine, also ensure it is early enough to give you more time and quiet. This will improve your morning routine with Jesus.
2. Study The Scripture Or (And) A Devotional

This is closely tied to prayers because they go hand in hand. Usually, when we pray, we like to study the word, and other times when we study the word, we feel an urge to pray. Every morning, it is necessary to study the word of God for the day.
Fortunately for us, there are thousands of devotionals that are available both in print and online. These materials are well written and detailed to bring you clarity on every topic it discusses for the day.
Devotional study is always a very personal experience and is aimed at bringing you closer to God. So whether you decide to study the Bible or(and) a devotional, you are working to get closer to God which is the purpose of every spiritual exercise.
Every devotional has a message for each day, so do not worry, you will not run out of topics as there is enough to go around for the entire year.
3. Write Down Biblical Affirmations And Recite Them Daily
Affirmations are usually short sentences that we put together in order to motivate and inspire ourselves.
They are powerful words that can help us change our mindsets and perspectives towards certain things around us. When we digest such positive words, it helps us let go of unhealthy thoughts and actions.
The proven benefits of affirmations are absolutely endless. So when you want to make your affirmations, make God the center of it.
What you can do is write out Godly affirmations that resonate strongly with you and put them in strategic positions where you could see them in the morning and even during the day.
When you wake up, as part of your morning routine with Jesus, you can profess good things upon your life. You can also confess victory over sin, sickness, and the devil. Such powerful biblical affirmations can help you spiritually as well as emotionally.
You could say things like; my strength is in Christ, God loves me, my tongue carries power, and many more. These affirmations also help you remember your place in Christ before you set out daily.
4. Open Your Spirit With Gospel Songs

Gospel songs are not just for your entertainment or to test your vocal cords. They carry more power than that. These songs can help create an ambiance that you will maintain through prayer and uplift your spirit for the entire day.
As you listen to such songs intently and digest the lyrics, letting them sink in, you can even receive revelations for the day. It also helps you initiate a worship-filled atmosphere.
Personally, one amazing thing that I derive from listening to gospel music in the morning is peace and hope. Many gospel songs dispense peace to the listeners and hope, which can carry you through your day no matter how hectic it may get.
5. Pick A Bible Focus For The Day
For personal reasons, you can pick out a Bible verse that would take you through the day. I get my Bible verses during my prayers. So when I pray, oftentimes, I feel the urge to check out a particular verse that is ringing in my head.
Usually, when I open this verse and read it out loud, I realize that it is a message from God and I carry the theme for the entire day. This helps me navigate through my day much smoother than I ordinarily would.
Another way to get a verse for the day is to pick the memory verse that is discussed in the devotional you studied for the day. Either way, memorize the verse and repeat it to yourself throughout the day. So that in every situation, that word would be your Bible focus.
6. Write Down Some Prompts In Your Journal

One important item that serves a number of purposes for children of God is a journal. You may not be interested in journaling, but that is totally fine, there are still other things you could try out.
However, if you enjoy writing in your journal, then you can hop on this. In your journal, you can write about your new favorite topics daily. You should also consider writing about things that can quicken and motivate your spirit and even body to take appropriate action.
So, when you incorporate prompts in your morning routine with Jesus, you can write down these prompts that will help you examine your heart in order for you to build or strengthen your relationship with God. These prompts can include;
- How will I please God today?
- Is my love for God genuine?
- What can I do to serve God better?
- Did I glorify God yesterday?
- How can I improve my relationship with God?
- How many scriptures did I study today?
- Do I remember my takeaway note from yesterday’s study?
- Can I serve God totally today?
- How much time did I spend with God yesterday?
- Did I apply the word in my activities yesterday?
These prompts allow you room to interrogate your heart and the responses will help you do the right things as the day goes by.
7. Workout
You may wonder why working out and exercising is important for a Christian, but I tell you it is very important. These exercises keep your body fit and healthy and work well with our morning routine with Jesus.
Our bodies are meant to glorify God and an unhealthy body cannot do that. Therefore, engaging in exercises in the morning keeps your heart in good condition.
3 John 1:2(NIV) “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” this is because our bodies are vessels to host the Holy Spirit.
So even as you work out your salvation by communicating with God, also work out your body so that you may be a well and fit vessel to host the presence of God.
8. Give Thanks

God is always looking out for grateful hearts in order to bless them. We have often been told as believers to thank God in every situation. So when we wake up in the morning, we should thank Him.
Be grateful to God for even the things that you think are the smallest and basic; the ability to use your senses and limbs, the ability to sleep, and even to rise in the morning. As you offer thanks to God, He will do more.
A father who notices that his child is always grateful when he gives her gifts, even as small as candy, will always want to do more. God is our father and this is how he operates too.
Adding thanksgiving to your morning routine is great as it would allow you to express gratitude to God for the night well spent, the beautiful morning you are experiencing and even the day you are expecting. It is important to know how to give thanks to God for everything and you can learn this in-depth when you read this article here:
9. Share The Word With Others
Sharing the world with others does not necessarily mean you have to walk on the streets and talk to people about God. Fortunately, technology and evolution have made things easier.
One good and productive thing you can do every morning as a routine is spreading the word of God through the media. We can use our socials such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc to spread the good news and gospel of Christ.
This you can do through televangelism. This means using various modern mass media to communicate Christianity and the word of God. “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15 (NIV).
Preaching the gospel of Christ is a mandate that God has given to us. There was no prescribed way of going about it. God only needs you to share the word with the rest of the world.
So all that matters to God is that you are actually doing what he instructed. You can get online copies of devotionals and send them out via social media or websites very early in the morning.
And if you have the capacity to go out and preach about Christ early in the morning, then that is also welcome. Whether via traditional evangelism or televangelism, just ensure you share the word as per instruction. As you do this for your morning routine, this would help others to start off their day with Jesus as well.
10. Rebuke Evil

As Christians, we struggle daily to rebuke evil, because light and dark have nothing in common and cannot exist together. However, the devil remains adamant and tries to overshadow the light that God has placed on us.
In this regard, one important tip to add to your morning routine with Jesus is rebuking the devil and every form of evil. Evil does not only come as temptations or sin, it also comes as challenges.
Therefore, when we wake up, it is important to speak life and well-being into our day and ask God to help us ensure that whatever plans the devil has made do not come to pass. We then go ahead to sanctify the day and commit it all into the hands of God for safekeeping.
Scriptures You Can Use In Your Daily Routine
The Bible is rich with so many verses that carry powerful words of wisdom, affirmations, and so on. In this regard, there are so many scriptures that you can use as biblical affirmations or food for thought daily. Below are a few:
1. Psalms 148:3; “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”
2. Isaiah 26:9; “My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.”
3. Psalms 30:5; “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
4. Psalms 90:14; “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”
5. Philippians 4:6-7; “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
6. Romans 12:2; “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
7. Colossians 3:13; “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
8. 1 Corinthians 6:19; “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own”
9. Proverbs 3:5-6; “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
10. Romans 8:31-32; “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”
You know what they say about speaking to someone you genuinely love? You become happier, calmer, and more at peace in your heart. This is speaking of mere mortals, let alone our Father in heaven who is our first love.
So speaking to him first every day will definitely set you up for a better mood than you could imagine. Create a full morning routine with Jesus and abide by it every day.
So much that on a day you miss your routine, you will feel unsatisfied till you do it. When you reach this point, you can be assured that you have the time to communicate with God every morning.
Save this for later!
