Every Christian must understand how to thank God and express gratitude to him in all situations.
We must be grateful to God every day of our lives and thank him for both small and large blessings.
Psalm 100:4 says: Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. Day in day out, God expects us to praise and thank him.
Of course, it’s great to thank God when he does big things for you and answers your prayers, but it’s even better when we’re grateful to God all the time, even when things are tough. In this article will be taking a look at:
- Reasons to be grateful
- Why you should know how to thank God?

Reasons To Be Thankful

When confronted with difficult circumstances, it is important to stay positive and trust in God’s power and authority.
Unfortunately, one of the strategies of the Devil is to magnify your problems and make challenging situations look even more hopeless.
He does this for you to doubt the existence and power of God in your life. The Devil will even try to convince you that God has done nothing to warrant your gratitude, but this is not true.
God is ever faithful, and he never fails. For you to remember how faithful God is, I have compiled a list of six things that each of us who reads this post can be thankful for.
1. Thank God For The Gift Of Life
Psalm 90:12 NIV says Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Life is a gift from God, the source of life, and one thing you should keep in mind is that it will be taken away from you one day.
As a result, never take life for granted. Every day you wake up is a reason to be grateful to God. Thank Him for the opportunity to experience a new day because sleeping and waking up is a miracle in and of itself.
One of your morning priorities should be having a quiet time with God, thanking him for allowing you to see a new day, and releasing authority into the day with powerful prayers.
Luckily, we have a powerful morning prayers post compiled specially for you; it contains 300 powerful prayers that you need to start your day. Ensure you check it out.
2. Thank God For His Protection

Psalms 121:8 NLT says The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
Going about your day and coming back safely is also by the mercy and grace of God; many things can go very wrong in a day, so when God gives you the grace to come back home safely after you go out, then you have a reason to appreciate him for that.
Thank him for journey mercies when you get back home, no matter how short the distance is. Thank him for keeping you from harm and providing your daily bread.
3. Thank God For His Creation
Thank God for everything that he has created. Thank God, while eating your favorite meal, thank him after drinking water on a hot sunny day, thank him for the cool rain, thank him for the sun that brightens the day and helps you see.
Thank him for the moon. If all we had were the sun, it would be so difficult to sleep. Thank him for the beautiful animals all around us.
He made all these things for our convenience and made life easy. No matter how unfaithful or unrighteous we are, rain still falls on us, the cool breeze still blows. He does not remove these comforts even in our unfaithfulness; his loving kindness endures forever.
4. Thank God For The Promises In His Word

There are many beautiful promises in the word of God for you, and God has told us that his words will never fail. They will indeed happen.
God promises us a great future; he promises us peace that surpasses human understanding; he promises to answer us even before we call.
There are so many promises of God that you need to be aware of, so when Satan tries to bring up his lies, you remember the promises in God’s word and reject them immediately.
The Devil is the founder of lies, and the reason we allow him to manipulate us is that we do not know the truth in God’s word. The Bible says you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
To learn more about the promises of God, you should read this article, “100 Promises of God to man you need to be aware of.”It contains 100 promises of God that every Christian must know.
Remember, only the truth in God’s word can set you free from the captivity of the Devil. God has great promises in his word; you only need to be aware of them.
5. Thank God For The Holy Spirit
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), be with you forever John 14:16 AMP
The Holy Spirit is a gift Jesus gave us before He ascended to heaven; Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit of God who would comfort, help, teach and strengthen us in times of trouble.
The Holy Spirit is one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity. It is a spirit that gives courage, discernment, and direction.
6. Thank God For The Gift Of Salvation

The gift of salvation is the greatest gift there is. If you cannot think of any reason to thank God, thank him for the gift of Salvation.
God sent his only beloved son to die for our sins and set us free from the bondage of the second death.
We now have the assurance of a heavenly home and victory over Satan. We can now access the Father through Jesus because of the gift of Salvation.
A gift is given freely to all who want it. Jesus has redeemed our lost souls and brought us back to the Father. Thank God for the gift of Salvation.
Aside from these six things to be thankful for, I’m sure you can think of a few more things to praise God for that is unique to you.
Thank him for answered prayers, miracles, and impossibilities that he has made possible for you. Sincerely and from the bottom of your heart, thank him.
Why You Should Know How To Thank God

There are two primary reasons why you should know how to thank God. It is, first and foremost, a command from God, and secondly, it is the basis of our existence.
Being thankful to God is a heavenly responsibility that we have been entrusted with. It’s a job with no days off. Even when you don’t feel lucky or appreciative, God deserves our thanks.
God is self-sufficient, and he can exist without us, but he created us so we can share in his majesty and glory. Amazingly, the God who owns the earth wants us to have a personal relationship with us and share in his glory and majesty.
The Bible says in psalm 22:3 that he inhabits the praises of his people. There are many reasons you show know how to thank God, and I have listed some of them below.
1. It Is Our Responsibility
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Psalms 150:6 NIV. As Christians, we have two fundamental responsibilities: sharing the good news to others and continually glorifying God’s name.
Everything that has breath must praise the Lord; this does not just apply to humans alone, but also to trees, animals, and everything else God made, including the skies. (Psalms 19:1)
As a Christian, it is your responsibility to know how to thank God and glorify his name as long as you live. Thank him when things are going well and when things are not as great. It is one of the most critical responsibilities God has given you as his creation.
And it is indeed a pleasure that we have this task because the angels can worship and praise God far more effectively than we can. Yet, despite their efficiency, God still considers us worthy enough to give him a sacrifice of thanksgiving.
The Bible even lets us know in Luke 19:40 that if we decide not to praise him, he will raise the stones to cry in praise. So if you do not want to be replaced by rocks or stones, you must know how to thank God.
2. It Pleases God

David was called “a man after God’s heart” because he would humble himself by dancing and worshiping God, oblivious that he was King of Israel.
David the King never forgot his humble beginnings as a shepherd boy. So it’s no surprise that God chose him as Israel’s King over all his siblings. The sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving is the only sacrifice we can make to God. It is a pleasing sacrifice to God.
Psalms 116:17 NLT says I will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord. When we thank God and appreciate his blessings, it shows that we want to be people after his heart like David, people who want to please God.
God loved David because of his praises. Therefore, if you want to please God, offer thanksgiving’s sacrifice to him. Moreover, God will reward those who please him with even more blessings.
3. It Moves God To Do More
One of the reasons you should know how to thank God is that it moves God to do more. Remember the story of the Ten lepers Jesus healed.
Only one of the ten lepers came back to thank him; the others left. when Jesus saw this, he was impressed with the leper and said to him, your faith has made you healed.
Thanking God will move his hand to do much more than he has already done. The leper who returned received further blessings from Jesus and was cured permanently.
4. There Is Power In Thanksgiving

Thanking and praising God has power, just like prayer does. It is a spiritual weapon. The story of Paul and Silas demonstrates the ability of thanksgiving.
These men were properly chained and then guarded by the top warden; there was no way for them to escape. Nonetheless, their chains were broken by their singing and worshipping of God.
The beauty of God’s word is that we may apply Paul and Silas’ story to our own lives.
Thanksgiving can break chains that bind us; they may not be visible chains, but they can damage the chains of failure, sickness, and sin that have held us back for so long. So why not tap into the power of praises and thanksgiving today?
How To Thank God For Everything- 9 Ways
One of God’s commandments for us is to worship and glorify his name. It takes a grateful heart to appreciate the goodness and kindness of God.
While others might take his mercies for granted, we cannot afford to do the same because we know the power of thanksgiving and praise. Below I have written out nine ways in which you can thank God.
1. Thank Him Through Worship And Praise

But the time is coming indeed it’s here now when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. John 4:23 NLT
One way to show your gratitude to God is through genuine worship and praise.
You can offer your thankfulness to the Lord with Hymns and slow melodies, or you can do it with songs of praise, rejoicing, and dancing; both can be used to honor and glorify him.
When you worship God, you should do it with all of your heart, closing your eyes and letting your spirit connect with God.
Don’t worship or praise him absent-mindedly; make sure your heart and soul are connected to his throne of grace. Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Psalms 150:4 NLT
2. Thank Him In Prayer
I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. Psalms 63:4 NLT One of the ways you can thank God is through a prayer of thanksgiving.
All you do in this type of prayer is thank God without asking for anything. Hannah, Sarah, and Hezekiah are examples of people who prayed this type of prayer in the Bible.
Later in this post, I will show you how to thank God through prayer with samples of thanksgiving prayers you can apply for yourself.
3. Thank Him By Telling Others

I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. Psalms 9:1 NLT Telling others about what God has done in your life is another way to show gratitude to him.
When you share your testimony with others, it strengthens their faith and makes them believe that if God did it for you, he could do it for them also.
4. Thank Him Through Acts Of Service
You can appreciate God by acts of service in his vineyard. Sometimes you find yourself wanting to do something kind for someone who has helped you. You can do the same for God too.
Serve in the church or do something that adds to the growth of his kingdom; you can support the outreach of the gospel in any way, including financially.
5. Thank Him By Obeying His Will

As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should! Psalms 119:7 NLT You can thank God by obeying his will and following his commandments.
Living a holy life and following the commands of God is one way to show you love him and appreciate his works in your life.
However, it is not enough to thank God when he does something for you; you also have to dedicate your life to him, obey his will and build a personal relationship with him.
6. Thank Him By Recognizing His Workmanship
Another way to show your gratitude to God is by recognizing his hand and power in your life. One of the differences between Christians and others is that we believe everything has the Hand of God in it.
What other people call luck is what we call the grace and favor of God. Recognizing and realizing you cannot do anything without him is one way to thank and appreciate God.
7. Thank Him All Through The Day

You can show your appreciation to God by thanking him throughout the day when you wake up when you get back from work, and when you are about to eat a meal.
When you notice something beautiful, he has created. You can learn gratitude by constantly seeing the power and majesty of God in everything.
8. Thank Him By Keeping A Journal Of Gratitude
If you want to thank God for everything, you need to learn how to count your blessings and name them one by one.
And the best way to do this is by keeping a journal of gratitude, where you can list out all that God has done for you, so you can remember them all.
9. Thank Him For Major Blessings

This might seem rather obvious, but it is important to thank God when he does important things for you.
It shows you appreciate what he has done, and it will prompt God to do even more for you.

How To Thank God In Prayer

Prayers of thanksgiving are a great way to show your gratitude to the Lord; this involves you describing his majesty and thanking him for his marvelous works in your life.
You can use as many names of God as you can think of when thanking and praising him. An example of a prayer of thanksgiving is the prayer of Hannah after God gave her a son. 1 Samuel 2:1-11 NLT says
Then Hannah prayed: “My heart rejoices in the Lord! The Lord has made me strong Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me. No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.
Aside from Hannah, there are many other examples of people who offered prayers of thanksgiving to God. Some of them include Joshua, Hezekiah, Solomon, David, etc.
The thanksgiving prayers are divided into three: thanksgiving prayers for blessings, Thanksgiving prayers for another day, and journey mercies.
How To Thank God For Another Day

Heavenly Father, thank you for everything. This new day has brought me joy and happiness, and I am grateful to you for the gift of life. Today is the day that you have made, and I will rejoice and be glad in it because you have done so.
Lord, I give you all of the honor. I appreciate you for your protection throughout the night, and I thank you for not allowing any harm to come my way.
It is only because of your kindness and mercy that I find myself here today. Father, please accept my thanksgiving in the name of Jesus.
How To Thank God For Journey Mercy
Gracious God, the heavenly Father, thank you for bringing me back home safely. Thank you for your watchful eye of protection and your presence that followed me.
I am grateful, Lord, that kept me in the shelter of your wings and for your grace and favor that followed me throughout my journey. Your name is highly exalted, Lord.
You are the King of Kings and Lord of all the earth. Thank you so much for your love and faithfulness. Be exalted in Jesus’ name.
How To Thank God For His Blessings

Heavenly Father, I thank you, Lord, you are good; you are kind, and Your mercies endureth forever. You are the same God of yesterday, today, and always.
You are the I am that I am, the rock of ages, the lily of the valley, the bright and morning star, Lord, I worship you from the bottom of my heart, and I thank you for all that you have done for me.
You are a great and faithful God; You never fail, you never change, you never put me to shame, you have done it again, Lord, you keep doing wonders and surpassing my imagination. You are indeed a great and mighty God
Conclusion
Now you know why it is important to thank God and how to thank God as well. Please, do not be like the other nine lepers who received what they wanted and never looked back; do not be the kind of Christian who wants to use and dump God.
You can’t only serve God when you need something. Serve God in good and bad times, and praise him for who he is rather than what he has done.
Save this for later!
